Everyone is aware of the common diamond shapes such as round cut, emerald cut, and cushion cut, but not a lot of them are familiar with the baguette cut. This cut manages to be both vintage and contemporary at the same time. The shape derives from the “step-cut” family, which also includes emerald and Asscher cut diamonds. These cuts have such intricate work designs embedded into each patterns. But still, many people often confuse emerald and baguette cuts while shopping. The two are similar, but there are some key differences like: Baguette cuts have a narrow, more elongated shape than emerald cuts.

Jewelers sell baguette cuts in smaller carat weights than what is available for emerald cuts. The baguette cut is a step cut, which means imperfections and color tend to be more obvious in this shape, although, baguette cut diamonds are much smaller than other cuts. As long as you are unable to see any inclusions or blemishes with the naked eye, the clarity grade of the baguette diamond is not as important. But, make sure the color and appearance of your baguette is same as the other diamonds in your ring. The baguette cut may not be the most popular diamond shape, but it is one of the most beautiful cuts.

These diamonds are lean stones with an intricate work. It complements almost every other diamond shape. They can also be cheaper compared to long cuts, as the long cut can provide more bling for a thin band. It’s also common to wear baguette diamonds on wedding bands. Due to their narrow and long shape, they look elegant and sophisticated when placed in wedding band set. It may be difficult to find solitaire baguette cut diamonds, but you may be able to custom order that sort of pattern. The absence of radiance in diamonds with this cut also affects their color with lower grade and the stone might have some yellow shades, which will be more visible than those in a round stone with the same color grade.
